The Designer

Denise Elizabeth was born and raised in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, where her talent and creativity became evident at a very young age. At that time, by combining seashells and tropical seeds, she discovered her passion for jewelry design and for Nature’s gifts. She spent her free time making beautiful earrings for her own use and quickly began selling to boutiques on the Island. She experimented with new materials such as leather, chains, copper pipes, hardware nuts and washers, and objects she would find at random. She displayed her creations at fashion shows with renowned Puerto Rican designers and was invited to different TV shows to present her creations.

In 1989, Denise Elizabeth obtained a BFA with a concentration in Jewelry and Metalsmith from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since then, Denise has enjoyed different and exciting experiences that mark various stages of her career. She worked with designer Eric Beamon at Showroom 7 in New York; upon her return to Puerto Rico she began distributing her designs to boutiques throughout the Island and Virgen Gorda. For several years she designed an accessory line known as Kala --the official jewelry worn at the Miss Puerto Rico Universe pageant--as well as its collection of metal tiaras for brides and beauty queens.  She also designed jewelry for the play Frida. Her designs have been worn by international artists and depicted in local fashion magazines.

Denise is the mother of a wonderful 16 year-old boy, and currently offers jewelry design and metalsmithing classes at her workshop in San Juan.

"Jewelry is a form of art that allows people to interact with the power of nature's beauty through stones and metals. It also allows those with a great sense of style to appreciate how these wonders are transformed into a permanent and very valuable ornament of luxury and design."
